J. Lo Kept the Money

HOLLYWOOD - NOVEMBER 9: Actress/recording arti...Image by Getty Images via DaylifeI just read an interview with Jennifer Lopez where she acknowledges that she kept most of the money that People magazine paid for photos of her twins, Max and Emme. On one hand, I appreciate her candor. On the other hand, does she really need the $6 million? Brad and Angelina donated the $14 million they received, and for better or worse, the kind of set the bar for other celebrities. I can understand why a celebrity would want to control the situation and offer the photos to a specific publication. If they don't, the paparazzi will chase them until someone gets the first picture, so they might as well take charge. If you feel selling the photos is gauche, then you could do what Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick did. They stood outside of the hospital, and let all of the photographers snap away, thereby decreasing the value of any pictures and avoiding a mob scene. But somehow, selling photos of your kids for $6 million and keeping the money, when Forbes ranks you as the ninth richest woman in show business just seems tacky.
