UltraShape - Too Good To Be True?

Wouldn’t it be cool if you could get rid of those extra inches around your thighs or your waist – you know, the areas that don’t seem to respond to diet and exercise? Wouldn’t it be great if you could get rid of those inches, but without surgery, anesthesia, and the risks those things involve? Well, apparently we don’t have to dream much longer. There is a new procedure called UltraShape that was featured on Good Morning America today. It is a non-invasive way of getting rid of fat – like liposuction, but without the surgery! Ok, I know you’re thinking not another fad that’s long on promises and short on results. It sounds crazy and too good to be true, but UltraShape is currently being used in Canada (approved last year) and has been used in much of Europe since 2005. It is currently in phase three clinical studies in the United States. According to the story, it could be approved by the FDA within a few years. The procedure uses ultrasound to destroy fat cells under the skin by causing the fat cells to vibrate at a very high speed. The fat is carried to the liver where it is then safely removed from the body. In the studies done thus far, patients averaged a loss of 2-3 inches after three half-hour treatments, with no anesthesia, no bleeding, no damage to the skin, nerves, other tissue, etc. All of the doctors interviewed noted that this is not for people who need to lose a lot of weight, and that you would still need to eat right and exercise, or those inches may come back. I am normally skeptical of any weight loss “scheme” that doesn’t involve diet and exercise, but this seems like a great solution for those problem areas that no amount of diet and exercise will help. Of course, the downside is it will probably cost tens of thousands of dollars!! Oh, well, a girl can dream! Besides, it sounds like unless I want to fly to Canada, I’ll have a few years to save up.
