One Last Trip to the ER

I haven't watched ER in years, but I was lured back in tonight by the promise of seeing many of my old faves (I'm talking to you George Clooney). I started watching ER in its first season and finally tuned out mid-way through the 10th season. It was very impressive at how seamlessly the writers were able to offer believable exits to so many cast members while successfully integrating new faces. So I shouldn't have been surprised that they were able to have so many former cast members return tonight without it seeming contrived. Doug Ross, Carol Hathaway, Peter Benton and John Carter didn't all just happen to show up in County General's ER - in fact all four never shared a scene together. And while part of me really really wanted to see them all together, I was ultimately relieved that the writers did not take the easy way out. The only problem is it really made me long for the good old days of the first season. Oh well, I can always get the DVD.
